The supermarket is my laboratory.

I'm Shiraz Goraya. By day, I'm the Branch Manager of Jambo Supermarket — a 5-branch group in Dar es Salaam. Procurement, supplier negotiations, stocktaking, expiry management, staff coordination. The real thing, every day.

And I'm the developer who builds the software that runs it. Not software I imagine retailers might need — software I need myself, by Monday morning. Two of those systems are now live production platforms serving real business daily.

The journey

From the shop floor to production software

10+ YEARS

Retail operations, learned the hard way

Years inside supermarket operations — procurement, supplier performance, inventory control, expiry management, multi-branch coordination. Today: Branch Manager across Jambo Supermarket's 5 branches (Mikocheni, Bahari Beach, Masaki, Bunju, SalaSala) with 14,000+ SKUs.

THE PROBLEM

Watching money leak, every single week

Expired products written off. Stocktakes that took days and still missed variances. Supplier data going stale. Paper trails nobody could audit. Off-the-shelf software didn't fit — it was built by people who'd never stood in an aisle at 6am.

THE BUILD

So I built the tools myself

Starting with a barcode expiry scanner PWA, growing into RetailOps Suite — a full multi-tenant retail operations platform. Result at our own stores: roughly 80% reduction in stock loss. Then came jambosupermarket.online — a complete e-commerce platform with live M-Pesa payments.

NOW

Building the same systems for others

Retail e-commerce platforms, inventory systems, invoicing, and AI automation — for retail businesses in East Africa and worldwide. Everything I sell, I use first in my own business. That's the quality bar.

How I think about software

Three rules I build by

RULE 01

Build around real behavior

M-Pesa because customers have it. WhatsApp dispatch because riders live there. Offline mode because the internet drops. Adoption problems are design problems.

RULE 02

Enforce rules in the database

Branch scoping, audit trails, owner protection — enforced in Postgres with row-level security and triggers, not just in the interface. Interfaces have bugs; the data layer holds the line.

RULE 03

If I wouldn't run it, I won't ship it

Every system survives my own operation first — real staff, real stocktakes, real Monday mornings. Clients get software that's already been through the fire.
